Locust in the city hall in Bielsk – On the city hall of Bielsk you can find an insect image forged in a metal sheet and the date 1779. According to the legend this is commemoration of locust plague in Podlasie region in the same year.
Bielsk Podlaski as a filming location - in 1981 a director Jerzy Hoffman right here shot the film. „Znachor”.It starred Anna Dymna as Marysia Wilczurówna – a beautiful shopkeeper and the daughter of a missing professor Rafał Wilczur. The girl was admired by Count Leszek Czyński (Tomasz Stockinger). The area around Bielsk showed the polish village where the professor suffering from amnesia (Jerzy Bińczycki) cured the ill. The store, where Marysia worked,is still there and it is called by locals „Zośki”.
Post-secondary Iconography School is the only of its kind in Poland, was founded in 1955. After four years of education in this private art school students become visual art technicians. Art classes are held in 3 specializations: iconography, conservation and gilding. Three languages are taught here: Old Church Slavonic, English and Greek.
